Expert Advice: Women’s Winter Layers

The must-have parka

In our style column, blogger Laura-Katherine Gonzalez layers up for winter in San Francisco with boots, a parka and a beanie.

Winters in San Francisco are chilly, windy and often rainy – owning a parka is key for survival during this season. For me, the perfect winter jacket has to be cute, but also practical. The Pine Mountain Waterproof Parka works on cold, windy days with its full fleecy lining keeping you nice and toasty. Due to its lightweight fabric, the parka is a great layering piece (and it allows for wearing lots of items beneath it).

For my first look, I wanted a dressy, yet casual look for a quick coffee in the city. I wore the Walker Creek Wool Blend dress because it’s a welcome break from just wearing jeans in the colder seasons. On this day, it was such a blessing to go hiking in the San Francisco hills with sunny and fog-free weather – a rarity!

After brunch, my boyfriend and I headed to Bernal Heights Park for a nice walk – which is why I chose to wear my Whittemore Mid Lace Up Boots. They’re tall, stylish and comfortable. On our hike, we were able to get a great view of the neighborhood and the city.

Later in the week, we started getting some of that infamous San Francisco cold weather, which allowed for some expert layering looks to keep warm. I paired the Seymours River Merino Wool Swacket, a soft navy sweater-jacket, with a white v-neck and my favorite pair of distressed denim for a casual yet put together look.

The Seymours River Merino Wool Swacket is a stand-out piece with its biker jacket silhouette and a stylish asymmetrical front zip. For an outerwear layer, I threw on the Pine Mountain Parka to keep out the cold and rain and threw on a casual winter hat, the Lighthouse Point Ruched Beanie. This look keeps me warm, dry and ready for the city, while still maintaining my sense of style.

Whether I’m grabbing a quick coffee or taking a stroll through the city in the winter, I need a winter jacket that can handle it all. The Pine Mountain Parka was an easy choice for my San Francisco winter.
