SERV-A-PALOOZA: Thousands of hours served, countless connections made
20 years ago, we started an annual day of service and shut down our offices to make a difference in people’s lives. Serv-a-polooza is just one part of our Path of Service program, which grants each employee 40 hours of paid service per year to give back to our communities. This fall, thousands of our employees are pulling on their boots for our 20th annual Serv-a-palooza event! Let’s see how we are making an impact.
BOOTS AROUND NORTH AMERICA
In New York City, 90 of our employees joined together to spend some time cleaning up the grounds, making flower boxes and painting at The Point and Girls Prep Bronx. In Ohio, 25 of our best got together to clean and winterize stables at Camp Cheerful. And, in New Hampshire, we closed our HQ and went to Manchester, NH to focus all our efforts on one community in need. We fit over 480 children with new shoes, socks and backpacks, planted a new community garden, renovated a playground, prepared meals, painted, mulched and so much more. We spent an entire day out of the office to support Manchester in being a brighter community for everyone who lives there.
HELPING OUT IN HOLLAND
We’ve got boots on the ground far and wide. 120 volunteers in the Netherlands made connections through two special events. Some of them helped pack food at a non-profit, charitable food bank that distributes food to those who have difficulty purchasing enough to avoid hunger. Others lent a hand at InteraktContour, a non-profit organization that helps people with permanent brain-injuries, with a day-out excursion for those the organization supports.
DOING GOOD IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
360 employees pulled on their boots to serve in the Dominican Republic. In fact, we were able to paint two schools! One school assists deaf and mute young people of Santiago City; the other is in close proximity to our own factory. A fresh coat of paint makes everything a little brighter. In addition to our work in the schools, two smaller groups of employees painted dining rooms for low income families of Santiago. And finally, a large group of us went to the Arenquillo River to help educate associates and the community about the importance of keeping our rivers clean.
GOING GLOBAL
There’s much more service to come around the world! In Taiwan 150 of our employees will team up to pave roads damaged by a typhoon, fix tea trees, clean pools invaded by grass, protect a lagoon by building a sandbank, and pick up collected waste along the coast. In Asia and the U.K. Serv-a-palooza events are about to kickoff and will impact communities in the next few weeks.
At Timberland, we’re committed to doing good – we strive to make responsible products, protect the outdoors, and serve the communities in which we live, work, and play. Although this year’s Serv-a-polooza is coming to a close, we’re just getting started. We’re on the path of service and there’s really no stopping us.
